Mezcal is an often misunderstood spirit. Although similar to Tequila, it is worlds apart in many ways. Tim Master, Director of Specialty Spirits Division and Trade Education at Frederick Wildman & Sons, brought Ilegal Mezcal to share with Kathy and taught her a bit about this robust and unique spirit. Tim also shared his recipe for a wonderful winter Mezcal cocktail, the Maguey Harvest.

That being said, utilizing seasonal whole fruits, like strawberries, and the power of a Vitamix blender, you can create a delicious blended daiquiri that is a perfect way to beat the heat.

Harvest Dark and Stormy Cocktail

It's harvest time and delicious apples are ready, and perfect, for use in cocktails. This twist on the classic Dark and Stormy cocktail uses a blended Apple Ginger Puree to compliment the traditional flavors of the ginger beer and dark rum. You can make the Apple Ginger Puree up in advance with your Vitamix The Quiet One Blender and store up to a week. I like to use granny smith apples for their tart flavor.
Pineapple Mezcal Cooler Cocktail

Kathy uses an un-aged mezcal in this cocktail but any style would work well. A fresh sage leaf shaken in adds a dusky flavor. You can also make it with silver tequila, if you don't have mezcal. The Fresh Pineapple Agave can be made ahead with your Vitamix The Quiet One Blender, and is great as a non-alcoholic beverage when a bit of soda water is added.
