Volcano Cocktail
By Robert Hess
Exotic cocktails often need an exotic display, and few get more exotic than the Volcano. Served in it's namesake vessel, replete with mini volcano burning brightly in the center, this is sure to catch your attention. Fire extinguishers on the ready!
Recipe
Ingredients
6 oz grapefruit juice
2 oz lime juice
3/4 oz maple syrup
1/2 oz simple syrup

1 oz gold rum

Hi Robert,
Love that you’re embracing all things Tiki! When are you going to debut an episode on The Voyager? Made it over the weekend, twice. First, I followed your recipe and then—in true Tiki fashion—made it with equal parts light and dark rum. added an interesting second layer.
keep up the great work!
Stay tuned Marty… an episode on the “Voyager” will be showing up soon.
In the meantime, you can catch up on this drink through Jeff Berry’s blog…

Surprised to see you use pink grapefruit juice, as most people think it’s too sweet for the cocktails they make and prefer white grapefruit juice instead. Do you not find much of a difference in flavor, or was pink just easier to come by?
And what a waste of Demerara 151! I’d use Bacardi 151 if you’re just gonna burn it.
Scott, pink is what I had available :->... although I’ve never really stopped to compare the differences. I so rarely use grapefruit juice in cocktails. I’ll have to look into this.
I’m not a big fan of grapefruit juice for cocktails. Especially since my cholesterol medication advises me to avoid all things grapefruit.
For the Zombie recipe on this site recipe I found substituting extra pineapple juice in place of the grapefruit juice made the cocktail a little more appealing to my test subjects. I liked it better as well.
However I doubt such a substitution would work for the Volcano.
