Ante Cocktail
By Robert Hess
Calvados is a brandy from the Normandy region of France. But instead of being made from grapes, it is made from the regions various apples. Here in America, a similar product, but with a slightly different character, is Applejack. The Ante cocktail is one that provides a great way to enjoy calvados, with a gentle and slightly sweet flavor.

dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Very nice. But, I didn’t hear “Auntie cocktail.” I heard “the Anti-cocktail.” You know… what to drink when all of your friends are having cocktails and you want to make a statement. :-)
I think it’s Ante like the bet you place at the start of around of poker. As in you can’t even start a night of drinking until you’ve put in your ante. Calvados and Cointreau, it’s like comparing apples and oranges.
Hi Robert - I’ve recently developed an interest in ‘playing with’ mixology - as a side bar to my love of playing with food. I’ve always liked Campari. Recently I tried Calvados at a friend’s Autumn themed dinner party, and found it delightful as an after dinner sip, on it’s own. I know there are some Calvados cocktails, but wondered whether you have ever seen one that includes Campari. And what do you think about that combination? T
