You’re looking a little pekid after a week of the Tales, Robert. I’m glad you saved the strength for this fun segment.
One question for both/either mixologists: how well is an ounce of soda water going to hold up against 3-1/4 ounces of alcohol and citrus? Will any fizz survive, or is this the same as adding still water?
One more question for the Bum: Is Dr. Funk the same physician who advised one to put the lime in the coconut and drink ‘em both together?
What’s the brand name of the pomegranate syrup? I’ve been making my own grenadine for awhile, as I haven’t been able to find any syrup in stores.
Aloha Thomas—you’ll definitely get a little fizz in there with one ounce; more than that, at least to my taste, starts to dilute the drink.... and I believe it was “Dr.” Nillson who first advised putting the lime in the coconut, although the 70s are kind of a blur for me!
Aloha Chuck—it’s called Amoretti. If you can’t find it, though, I’ve had equally good results with pomegranate syrups by Monin and Sonoma Syrup Company.
The Sonoma Syrup Company product (called, in an amazing fit of honest marketing, “Pomegranate Infused Simple Syrup") is indeed very good. I also like the Stirrings Authentic Grenadine. Between these two, I have largely lost my enthusiasm for making my own grenadine (even though home-made *can* be better depending on the raw materials you use).
Cheers!
Oh, and great episode and recipe! Thanks, guys.
Cheers!
